Help Zi to become a real KotHaar

KotHaar-Hok-Zi, on the L-shaped island south-east of the Sunken Pyramid in the Burning Spire, wasn't built for the Scorch and wants help becoming a real KotHaar. Three raw beltfish and a cactus steak, four burning pedestals around the pyramid, and a password into the Cave of Screams, where Zi has already been reforged into something Fuzan controls. Part of Icthlarin's Little Helper has to be done first.

    Use the KotHaar numbering book to get past the KotHaar Bouncer

    The bouncer at the Cave of Screams, in the top-left of the Burning Spire just right of the tree icon on the map, wants a password. Any of the three options, then the third, gets you the KotHaar Numbering For Dummies scroll; inspect it in your quest inventory, talk to him again and answer with the two triangles separated by a line.

    Bring 1 cactus steak and 3 raw beltfish back to Zi in Umbral Sands

    Beltfish are a desert catch; cactus steaks come from bunny cactus with an adamant axe or better.

    Touch 4 pedestals in any order in THE GAUNTLET OF FIRE - 0/4

    The pedestals are big black blocks with fire on top, inside the blue circle the quest draws: east of the Sunken Pyramid on a tall rock, north of it behind Zi, west of it, and south of it to Zi's south-west.

    Return to Zi in the Burning Spire region of the Umbral Sands

    Touch 4 pedestals in any order in THE GAUNTLET OF FIRE - 3/4

    Inside the cave two KotHaar-Xil and the reforged Zi attack at once. Kill all three, pick up Zi's core and leave.

    Use the password to enter the Cave of Screams, within the Burning Spire region

    The bouncer takes the core and pays you with a plate of pure obsidian.

    Return to the KotHaar Bouncer outside of the Cave of Screams

On completion

It's good that you put a stop to Zi's plan to join the ranks of Fuzan's KotHaar minions. He may be smaller now, but he's much happier… and much less of a threat.

Tips

The plate unlocks the Obsidian Cape recipe, one of the two capes that matter in the Fuzan fight.

KotHaar Bouncer: Halt! Speak the password to me, stranger, or you shall not pass.

KotHaar-Zek’Tal: You hear screams from beyond the door. Yeah, this is the Cave of Screams alright.

KotHaar-Zek’Tal: You step away from the door.

Zil'sCore: You pick up something small, black and buzzing with energy.

Zil'sCore: Nothing interesting happens.

Zi: These are huge and... on fire. I wonder why they are here?

KotHaar Bouncer: Unless you wish to be forged into a KotHaar, which is likely impossible, there is nothing more for you here.

KotHaar Bouncer: Hrmmm. Not quite.

Zi: Oh my, OH MY, it's a human! Look at how long and weird-looking you are! You're like half a spider.

Zi: Hello hello! Do you remember me? It's the KotHaar, Zi!

Zi's Core: OH MY KILN you were amazing! I was all like 'ARGH I AM IN THE GRIP OF FUZAN!' and you were like 'I WILL SAVE YOU, ZI!'.

Zi: These are huge and... on fire. I wonder why they are here?

KotHaar Bouncer: Halt! Speak the password to me, stranger, or you shall not pass.

KotHaar Bouncer: But I will say that I admire your skill, human.

Zi: I thought humans would shrivel up in the Scorch, but LOOK at you. The name is KotHaar-Hok-Zi, but you can call me Zi. And, unlike you, I...I'm not as well suited to the Scorch.

Zi's Core: What a day, eh? Well, I guess I'm a KotHaar Core now. A tiny marble. But at least I've not being puppeted by a giant dragon, right?

KotHaar Bouncer: Halt! This place is not for your eyes. Turn back.

KotHaar Bouncer: Human. I despair. Remember the numbering book that I gave you?

KotHaar Bouncer: The KotHaar Bouncer snorts.

KotHaar Bouncer: Correct, human who is clearly not a KotHaar.

Zi: It's why I am out here, actually. I was told that I couldn't be a real KotHaar, on account of my frailty. But it's only temporary! I am going to prove that I am definitely NOT the weak-link they say I am.

Zi's Core: Could you do me a favour and take me to the Bouncer outside of the cave? I've got a bit of house-keeping to do.

KotHaar Bouncer: I see you have reversed the forging process, KotHaar-Hok-Zi.

KotHaar Bouncer: Zi is inside. But I warn you - he is changed.

KotHaar Bouncer: It would serve you well, human, to read the guide I gave you.

KotHaar Bouncer: It would serve you well, human, to read the guide I gave you.

KotHaar Bouncer: And you answered that without even reading the leaflet I gave you. Almost as if you were guided to the answer by some invisible force.

Zi: OH MY KILN I just had a brilliant idea! You can teach me how to survive in the desert!

Zi: OH NO YOU DIDN'T! Calm as you like, you just sauntered over to the pedestals, touched them, and came back to me! Legend. Absolute legend.

Zi: Oh, I must admit I thought you would be completing THE GAUNTLET OF FIRE.

Zi's Core: I did, with help from the adventurer. Um, after some consideration, I have decided that I am not going to be a KotHaar after all.

KotHaar Bouncer: He was accepted by the KotHaar, but on one condition: his core must be forged into a new body. And that body is controlled by Fuzan.

KotHaar Bouncer: Zi is inside. But I warn you - he is changed.

KotHaar Bouncer: You misunderstand, human. We do not speak numbers as you do.

Zi: Thank you thank you thank you. You will NOT regret this. Okay, what do survival people do in the desert? Ah, yes, they make their own food!

Zi: Of course! You are busy! Very busy! I will wait here and die and become one with the desert.

Zi: You came back! And you brought the cactus steak and the fish belts!

Zi: Did you bring me the things that you gathered from the desert?

Zi: Right, I think I've learned enough from you. I'm ready to be accepted by my people. I'm going to the Cave of Screams, to the west behind the sunken pyramid.

Zi: If you don't have time, that's fine, obviously. But if you do have time, then four thumbs up.

Zi's Core: Um, could you make some room for me to hop in your pockets? It's crowded in there.

The Bouncer looks from side to side, as if checking if someone is watching.

KotHaar Bouncer: He was accepted by the KotHaar, but on one condition: his core must be forged into a new body. And that body is controlled by Fuzan.

KotHaar Bouncer: Think like a KotHaar. Take this book and return when you can count… properly.

Zi: Bring me 1 cactus steak and 3 raw beltfish. Show me how to gather life from the sand like a desert witch! A sand-witch, hehe!

Zi: This is all too much. Okay, okay, next up is THE GAUNTLET OF FIRE! You're going to show me how to navigate lava and also be a kickass hero.

Zi: No? Oh - not a bother. You have so much to do, being an adventurer and all.

Zi: Come see how I do! There's a KotHaar Bouncer there, guarding the entrance. He will ask for a password.

Zi: Go out there on your magic carpet, find four pedestals that look like giant black blocks, and tag them before coming back.

KotHaar Bouncer: Good for you, little one. Grab this opportunity with all four hands. I wish I had done the same.

Zi: Out there, around the Burning Spire, are four pedestals. They're giant black blocks with fire on top - you can't miss them. You are going to touch the four pedestals in any order and then come back to me.

Zi: I'll just sit here and slowly erode into nothingness.

ZI: It is SO simple. Count the total number of words that he says to you. The total number IS the password. See you in there! I'M GOING TO BE A REAL KOTHAAR!

KotHaar Bouncer: And you, human - you have been a friend to this little KotHaar. I wish to give you a trophy from Zi's discarded body.

KotHaar Bouncer: Ugh. Humans and their tiny pockets. Come back when you have space for what I give you.

Zi: Meanwhile, I'm going to shout your name and periodically punch the air!

KotHaar Bouncer: Or, at least, I would if you had any space in your piddling human pockets. Empty some space and come back to me.
