What's Theirs is Mine

Help Doric track down the mage that stole his keepsake, by unlocking portals around Dowdun Reach.

Doric in The Nexus says a red-robed wizard knocked into him and ran off with a bronze dog on a keychain his son made. Chasing the mage through three portals is really a tour of the keep's nodestones, and it ends with a confession and the recipe for the Zamorak staff. The three stops go in order.

Steps

4
  1. 1

Look for signs of the mugger-mage in the Cathedral in Dowdun Keep.

The Cathedral's nodestone is on the north-west wing and can't be reached from inside: go in, turn right, follow the outer walkway round to where the parapets are missing and Windstep up to the ledge. Read the mage's notes on the table (he was studying how the nodestones draw on the Dreaming Stone instead of runes), activate the stone and report back. Doric saw chains, cells and knights through the next portal.

  2. 2

Look for signs of the mugger-mage in the Garrisons of Dowdun Keep.

The Garrison's nodestone is in the four-turreted building on the northern face of the fortress, with the mage's schematics on a crate beside it on the first floor, notes on drawing magic from suffering. Activate it and go back. The last portal showed glowing lights, water and rock.

  3. 3

Look for signs of the mugger-mage in the underground Demon Gate of Dowdun Keep.

The Demon Gate is the underground area beneath the keep. Fight through to the arena at the far end, past two shardbound lesser demons, and the mage's body is on the other side, singed and clawed. The demons got him first. Search him for a crumpled schematic.

  4. 4

Speak to Doric in the Dowdun Reach Nexus.

Doric admits the dog was never stolen: it fell out of his pocket and rolled behind a rock. By way of apology he reads the schematic and teaches you the Zamorak staff.

On completion

Doric was attacked by an evil Zamorakian wizard and a treasured heirloom stolen. You chased the culprit through the portals of Downdun Reach, only to find they'd run afoul of demons. Still, you gave Doric his thing back, so it all ended well.

Tips

1

Activate all nine nodestones in Dowdun Reach and go back to Doric for a portal reward pack with the volume 2 tomes of Artisan, Construction, Magic and Mining.

Doric: You managed to get some of these nodestones working, great work! See if you can get the rest of them working!

Doric: All the nodestones are up and running now, well done my friend, well done indeed!

Doric: Hrmm?

Doric: ...

Doric: While I have you, would you mind helping me out with something else?

Doric: What? You're expecting some sort of reward? Aren't all these handy shortcuts enough for you?

Doric: Honestly, adventurers these days, bunch of mercenaries, the lot of 'em. Here, take these, they should help you out a bit.

Doric: Thanks, I knew you were a good sort. So, you got here just after this blasted red wizard barged into me and mugged me. Took a little bronze dog on a keychain, I need it back.

Doric: I understand, you must be busy. If you get a chance though, come see me, I could really use your help.

Doric: That red-robed mage blindsided me and stole a beloved keepsake of mine. Why? Who knows. Last I saw he went through a portal to some cathedral or other.

Doric: So... haha, you're not going to believe this, but that mage never took the dog at all. When he knocked into me, it fell outa me pocket and rolled behind a rock.

Doric: It were a gift, you see, from me boy, Boric. It was the first thing he made when I finally let him at the forge. Took him hours it did, never been more proud.

Doric: See if you can follow him, find out where he went. It might help you unlock some of these 'ere nodestones which'll make getting round 'ere much easier!

Doric: You just missed that ruddy red mage. He ran right past me, waving a great spiky staff around without fear of poking anyone's eyes out.

Doric: This time the portal seemed to be all chains, cells and angry looking knights. Maybe a garrison or something? Best look around.

Doric: Elusive little blighter this one, ran straight past me again. You're catching up, I think.

Doric: They went through the portal at the back there. I got a brief glimpse of glowing lights, water and rock. Some sort of sinister demonic gateway, maybe?

Doric: Definite egg on my face right now, haha. Still, did you get anything useful out of him? Oooh a schematic eh? Let me take a look, least I can do.

Doric: After begging for a reward you haven't got any space free to carry it. Come back to me when you've got space in your pack.

Doric: That wizard, he took it and then leapt straight through those lodestone like things over there. There were a brief flash of pews and religious things, then he were gone.

Doric: Some sort of sinister staff. I can see how they might put something like this together. Here, let me teach you, my way of an apology for the wild goose chase.

Doric: See if you can follow him, find out where he went. It might help you unlock some of these 'ere nodestones which'll make getting round 'ere much easier!

Doric: While you're at it, these nodestones -- they feel like they'd be quite useful to have active. If you can get them all up and running come see me, I'll have a little something for you.

Scrawled Notes: These notes are incoherent ramblings about the nature of portal magic. Seems like the ones in the keep don't use runes, but are powered by the Dreaming Stone somehow.

Doric: There is nothing of interest

Doric: There is nothing of interest

Scrawled Notes: These schematics seem to be something to do with emotion-based magic, as if trying to draw energy from suffering somehow. The notes look like they intend to use it on some source of great suffering.

Dead Zamorak Mage: The wounds are fresh, you arrived just after this mage was brutally slaughtered. Their robes are singed and claw marks rake across what's left of their torso.

Scrawled Notes: There's no sign of the mugger, but the nearby nodestone seems to crackle with lingering energy. Perhaps you just missed them.

Dead Zamorak Mage: You fumble around their pockets, but find no sign of Doric's keepsake. Instead you find a crumbled up schematic of some kind, perhaps Doric can make sense of it.
